Elastica Symbiotica: In Search for The Garden of Fiber Delights
Amandah L’Narte, 2022/2023

Techniques: Machine knitting, tufting, pattern printing, sculptural embroidery and dyeing
Materials: Linen, lurex, UV-reactive thread, elastane, recycled materials, metal and beads

ABOUT THE PROJECT
-----------------

A colourful world emerges through different textile techniques and materials. A garden of fibre delights in which to rest and find nourishment. Here, Amandah L’Narte creates a place inhabited by contemporary spirits, fairy tales and unexpected adventures. Visitors of all ages are invited to pause amid the noise and encounter the imagination in this textile world.

The project came to life during the artist’s master’s studies in textile art on the CRAFT! programme at Konstfack and was first shown at the 2022 Konstfack Degree Exhibition. It was later presented as a solo exhibition at Konstväxlingar, Odenplan, Stockholm, in 2023 and 2024.

FROM THE ARTIST’S WRITINGS
-------------------------

“The intention of the Search For the Garden of Fiber Delights is to explore how craft can offer support in a healing process and how it can act as an alternative method for stress reduction. I want to explore the possibilities to stretch a stressed-out mind by activating our senses through materiality and meditative states within craft.”

Amandah L’Narte, master’s thesis, 2022

“We need to plant the seeds and take care of them to see them grow. If we can plant and garden ourselves from within, feed our inner selves with the fruits from a prosperous garden, what will we bring out to the external world?”

Amandah L’Narte, master’s thesis, 2022

ABOUT THE ARTIST
----------------

Amandah L’Narte (b. 1989) is an artist, illustrator and designer based in Stockholm, Sweden. Trained at Beckman College of Design (BFA, fashion design) and Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (MFA, textile art), she moves between painting, textile art, illustration and surface pattern design.

Her work has been shown at Millesgården, Svenskt Tenn, Galleri Sintra and Nikolaj Kunsthal, among others. In 2023 and 2024, she presented the installation Elastica Symbiotica at Odenplan as part of Region Stockholm’s Konstväxlingar programme. She has received thirteen grants and completed commissions for clients including Amnesty, H&M, Absolut Vodka and SAS.

The garden recurs in her practice as a place for rest and nourishment, alongside the sphircles: hybrid beings of human, animal and plant origin that move through her world as guides.
