Amandah L’Narte

(b. 1989, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.

Amandah L’Narte masterfully bridges the realms of painting, textile art, and spatial design, creating immersive worlds where color, form, and emotion blend into a cohesive symphony. Her work is deeply multidimensional, inviting viewers into utopian spaces that resonate with both inner and outer harmonies. With a background in fashion design, L’Narte’s acute sensitivity to texture and materiality translates into her art, where the relationship between the body, space, and tactile experience is central.

L’Narte’s practice is rooted in philosophical inquiry, drawing on the ideas of Hartmut Rosa, Gilles Deleuze, and Carl Gustav Jung. She integrates Rosa’s concept of resonance, Deleuze’s exploration of becoming, and Jung’s focus on dreams and symbolism to inform her vision of a world where emotions are powerful transformative forces. For her, art serves as a sacred space where viewers can encounter and experience the emotional depths that shape both personal and collective reality.

VISUAL SONGS OF RESONANCE

At the core of her artistic philosophy is the creation of utopian worlds — spaces that are as much about reflection and aspiration as they are about escape. Her work, encompassing painting, textile art, and large-scale installations, provides a vision of harmony and interconnectedness, where the human spirit resonates in tune with the natural world. Her textile creations, in particular, embody this connection, using the tactile relationship between hand, material, and body to evoke a conversation between the intimate and the universal.

Amandah describes her pieces as “visual songs” — compositions where color acts as voice and form becomes melody, each artwork a symphony that speaks beyond the limitations of language. Her works invite viewers into these emotional and symbolic landscapes, creating portals through which deeper emotional and spiritual states can be explored, transforming each encounter into a resonant experience. This fluid relationship informs her textile practice, where knitting and printmaking are closely tied to movement, both in the act of creation and in composition.

A LIFELONG FASCINATION

Raised on the West Coast of Sweden in a home steeped in both music and the visual arts, Amandah’s early life was shaped by jazz, rock ’n’ roll, ceramics, textiles, and painting. Her grandparents, who lived as diplomats, filled their home with objects from their travels, most notably intricate rugs from the Middle East.

These textiles, rich in symbolic pattern and vibrant color, laid the foundation for her lifelong fascination with visual storytelling and abstraction. A formative trip to Teheran at the age of five, where she lived with her grandparents, further solidified her openness to different cultures and the way materials carry stories within them.

Throughout her career, L’Narte has also explored sustainability — not just in an environmental sense but in terms of the psychological and emotional impact of consumer culture. She confronts the emptiness that often accompanies the pursuit of material goods and offers her art as a counterpoint—spaces of emotional and spiritual depth, where we can ground ourselves in a fast-paced world.

THE SPHIRCLES

In addition to her visual work, Amandah’s artistic universe is inhabited by fantastical creatures she calls “sphircles” — hybrid beings that combine human, animal, and imaginary elements. These creatures, situated in Edenic landscapes, act as gentle guides, reflecting balance, interconnectedness, and spiritual insight. Through these beings, she offers a metaphor for the spiritual guidance her work seeks to provide.

VIEWERS COMPLETE THE NARRATIVE

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Beckmans College of Design and a Master of Fine Arts from Konstfack, Amandah L’Narte combines rigorous academic training with a deeply intuitive creative process. Her work transforms traditional exhibition spaces into interactive environments, inviting viewers to step into a world where their presence completes the narrative. Whether displayed in galleries, sculpture parks, or unexpected public spaces, her art fosters a deep connection between individual experience and collective emotion.

Amandah L’Narte’s vision is clear: to create spaces that resonate with reflection, emotion, and interconnectedness, offering a new way of seeing and experiencing the world — a world where dreams, emotions, and art come together to shape our new reality.
