About the project

The Passive Sleep collection was created for AMA AWE in 2017. The three kimonos shown here bring Amandah L’Narte’s hand-drawn surface patterns together with different silhouettes, materials and print placements.

On the long Melting World kimono, Passive Sleep appears in pastel colours as a placement print, framed by black-and-white geometric borders and dripping forms.

Replaceable Souls is a long black-and-white kimono featuring a placement print of striped fields, hands and a face with closed eyes. The short Blob kimono has an all-over pattern of white organic forms against black.

The original patterns were created by hand in ink and gouache, then transferred to habotai silk and ECONYL using reactive digital printing.
